Interactive Panel Discussion
"Intersection of Nanostructured Materials and Medicine"
Moderators:
Professor Don Haynie, University of South Florida, USA
Professor Lajos P. Balogh, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, USA
Nanomedicine encompasses applying existing nanotechnologies in medicine and searching for molecular-scale solutions to medical problems. Approaches include medicinal uses of nanosized matter, nanobiosensors, and drug delivery by designed multi-functional nanoparticles. Nanomedicine is projected to have an increasingly significant impact on the global economy. Governments have therefore been investing heavily in nanomedicine in recent years, and pharmaceutical companies, always risk averse, are now treating nanomedicine with increasing seriousness.
This forum, which is hosted by a panel of internationally renowned experts in nanostructured materials and medicine, will be focused on the intersection of nanostructured materials and medicine. The current state of the art, challenges and future prospects will be highlighted, discussed and debated in an interactive search for new insights and, possibly, solutions. The audience will participate in the discussions, providing input in support or opposition to points raised in the discussion. Know-how in nanomedicine will be taken to a greater height.
